Nestled in the scenic embrace of Doftana Valley, a piece of Maramureș history has found a new home. An ancient oak beam house, witness to the passage of time in the traditional Maramureș style, has been meticulously relocated, resurrecting a piece of architectural heritage and preserving a cultural gem.

This historic house, with its distinctive wooden beams and intricate detailing, faced the risk of fading into oblivion in its original Maramureș location. Its relocation to Doftana Valley was driven by a commitment to safeguarding architectural legacies, ensuring that future generations can marvel at the craftsmanship of a bygone era.

Every effort has been made to honor the authenticity of the Maramureș architectural style during the restoration process. The house has been lovingly restored using natural materials—wood, stone, shingle and clay—true to the vernacular architecture of its origin. This meticulous restoration pays homage to the skilled craftsmanship of the past.

In keeping with the respect for nature, the house has been seamlessly integrated into the Doftana Valley landscape. A carefully designed permacultural/foodforest garden surrounds the structure, promoting sustainability and ecological balance. The house overlooks a tranquil pond, introducing a serene water element that complements the natural beauty of the surroundings.

While maintaining the integrity of the original structure, modern elements have been tastefully incorporated to enhance functionality. An ingenious access bridge serves as the main entrance, leading visitors directly into the roof of the house—a strategic solution dictated by the slopes of the terrain. This modern addition not only ensures accessibility but also offers a unique vantage point to appreciate the panoramic views.

One of the notable modern features is a carefully positioned "lucarna," a window or dormer, offering breathtaking views of the permacultural/foodforest garden. This architectural touch seamlessly blends tradition with innovation, inviting natural light and a connection to the landscape into the heart of the house.

The relocation of this Maramureș house is more than a preservation effort; it's a testament to the delicate balance between tradition and innovation. By marrying old-world charm with contemporary functionality, the house has been reborn, poised to serve its present occupants while proudly showcasing its rich heritage.

In the heart of Doftana Valley, this transplanted Maramureș house stands not just as a physical structure but as a living narrative—a bridge between the past and the present, where architectural legacy meets the demands of modern living. This is a place where all our beliefs and design philosophies come together into a space proudly presented as OUR home.
